Kielder Cycle Challenge for Bernicia staff

A dozen of Bernicia’s best cycled their way around Kielder Water in Northumberland in the name of charity.

The intrepid team are pictured at the start of the Kielder Cycle Challenge supporting the WECAN charity in Hexham which provides community support for children and young people with disabilities, additional and complex needs.

Bernicia Chair John Holmes along with staff  Ali Newey, Lisa Stores, Mark Stevens, Jennie Moriarty, Andrew Dawes, John Harrison, Keith Wilkinson, Glen Tubman, Gareth Wright, Steven Bell and Douglas Hall all tackled the stunning – and hilly – course in remote Northumberland.

John Harrison was the first Bernicia cyclist home in an impressive 2 hrs 10 mins, with the final group of five crossing the line in 4 hrs 15 mins. A fabulous effort from all concerned! Here’s a video of their epic route.

The money the Bernicia team raise will help WECAN provide community-based support for children and young people aged between six and 19, to access leisure and social activities.
